1.tentative(adj.):

(1)not definite or certain, because you may want to change things

ex:I passed on my tentative conclusions to the police.

(2)done without confidence

ex:a tentative smile

2.amid(prep.)

(1)while noisy, busy, or confused events are happening-used in writing or new reports

ex:The dollar has fallen in value amid rumors of weakness in the US economy.

(2)among or surrounded by things

ex:He sat amid the trees.

3.rein something←→in(phrasal verb)

(1)to start to control a situation more strictly

ex:The government is reining in public expenditure.

(2)to make a  horse go more slowly by pulling on the reins

ex:She pulled gently on the reins.

4.manipulator(noun)

someone who is skillful at getting what they want by cleverly controlling or deceiving other people

ex:But the power to tax also is the lifeblood of powerful manipulator of the political system.

5.heighten(verb)

if something heightens a feeling, effect etc, or if a feeling etc heightens, it become stronger or increases

ex:There are fears that the march will heighten racial tension.
